Many dogs come to us with the basic skills of sit down stay etc. How your dog performs those skills is equally as important as knowing them. We want our dogs to obey us NOT because they are expecting a treat, but because we asked them to (sit, down, stay). Expecting things in training develops a pretentious dog that will only execute commands conditionally. We are working with Buddy who before this video would only work if we had something to give him. This actually plays into why he is aggressive and bites people. Stay tuned as we work through his food aggression.

Good news! Rose likes human interaction, and we can use this to our advantage. DO you have a dog that acts out? Try cutting back on how much you praise, or love on your dog. Make them work for the thing they love most...which is our love! :-)

Food Aggression explained the Majors way! The dog in the video had bitten several people just for giving him treats and when they reach for his bowl. Why do we insist on touching dogs while they eat? If I were fondling through your hair while you were eating your favorite meal would that get you irritated? Make them be respectful for the food and teach them the out command but after that LEAVE them alone while they eat! In the video I explain how I go about getting those food aggressive dogs to first feel safe before asking more out them. The key with fearful dogs is to help them feel safe first and then we set boundaries. Putting a lot of pressure on dogs that feel they are threatened will only make things worse.
